Traverse City Talent: A must read

After I wrote "Mr. Crane if you please" and the ensueing first book tour was underway, I reached out to Michigan Talent for advise and guidance. I found a warm community of artists spanning every discipline possible, eager to offer advise to further my passion to write.

Leaving that community, although temporarily, was the hardest part of putting down the pen...But I had responsibilities to myself and my future that had to be addressed. I put away the fedora. I put away the pen.

8 years passed in the blink of an eye, finding myself transformed by my 8 years of decisions and although for the better, still hungering for storytelling. I've always preferred storytelling as opposed to technical writing. A novel never had to be stopped by something so fragile as "the truth." I mean that in a very Mark Twain manner, I tried to leave the world mysterious in my own mind while I bathed myself in 9 to 5. And you have to do that, you have to preserve that place in your mind where anything is possible, no matter the improbabilities that life trains us to depend on.

Now that I've found myself, again, holding a pen and dreaming up stories I find allies in this relentless striving.

I consider the following people very important to the future of Michigan Art, very passionate people that you will no doubt hear more about in the coming months:

The Life on High Movement: This is the movement created by Mr. LOH, a philosopher of the new millenium that strives to find the balance in all aspects of ones life. His theories on love, hate, intolerance, physical conditioning and extreme sports has inspired countless people to find what they hold most dear in their hearts and then have the strength to share it with the world. More information can be found at http://lifeonhigh.net/ Visit the site, its one click away from learning more about yourself.

Dead Letter Office: This Rock group has been called the "Traverse City Tornado" for the way they've swept onto the TC music scene, changing the way music is heard/felt/and followed. They have powerful songs that are going to be showcased this coming Saturday 3/21/09 at Turtle Creek Casino's high profile "LEVEL 3" Nightclub which is one of the largest and most visited Venues north of Detroit. Don't miss it!

As I'm working on the newest novel, working title "The Re-education of Mr. Crane" I am dependent on the music I'm listening to for inspiration. I listen to Classical when I'm writing exteriors or fight scenes. I listen to 70's rock when trying to describe a celebration or gathering. I listen to 1950's Country for those moments when the hurt has to be told and my own tears didn't have the weight. And for love....for love I listen to the soft voice of my darling wife and the beat of our baby's heart, the room is otherwise silent.
